Our Mission

UF Research provides the institutional leadership and infrastructure necessary for the research enterprise to achieve excellence in creating new fundamental knowledge and technological breakthroughs, in translating research to relevance, and in contributing to the educational mission of the institution.

Seven Core Elements

UF Research will accomplish this mission through an uncompromised commitment to excellence in serving the needs of the UF research enterprise, in protecting the integrity of the institution, and in investing towards future research needs and opportunities. We must be LEADERS for the UF research enterprise by focusing on seven core elements:

Leaders

We must provide leadership to strengthen and grow the research enterprise, managing the present and investing toward the future.

  • Support existing research strengths and invest in emerging opportunities
  • Ensure competitiveness through investments in and stewardship of the research infrastructure
  • Develop and support effective research policy 

Education

We must facilitate research activities that support the educational mission of the institution by engaging students in discovery, innovation and knowledge creation.

  • Enhance the quantity and quality of graduate researchers
  • Facilitate the professional growth and experience of graduate researchers
  • Support undergraduate research activity and efforts

Accountability

We must ensure that the research enterprise is accountable to the expectations and requirements of our stakeholders.

  • Design, develop and support efficient, effective and coordinated systems that manage research administration and compliance processes
  • Foster a culture of partnership across campus in meeting institutional responsibilities
  • Create effective training programs that focus on education and prevention

Drivers

We must support faculty and funding efforts as these are the two main drivers of research. 

  • Provide a pallet of resources that maximize success in securing sponsored research funding
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary interactions and collaborations within UF
  • Cultivate relationships with potential sponsors and partners

Elucidate

We must elucidate, communicate with clarity, the impact and importance of the UF research aims and accomplishments.

  • Market UF research capabilities and interests to sponsors and partners
  • Communicate the impact and needs of UF research to government decision-makers
  • Effectively communicate the relevance and impact of UF research  to the general public

Relevance

We must facilitate the translation of research to relevance for the benefit of society.

  • Create economic opportunities through technology transfer and business development
  • Translate research discoveries into applications with impact
  • Facilitate high-impact discovery and scholarship that advances fundamental understanding

Service

We must be an efficient and effective, professionally staffed, service-centric organization focused on the needs of the campus.

  • Foster an embedded culture of service to the University that is aligned with campus needs
  • Create and maintain business practices and systems that are effective and efficient
  • Foster professional development of research support personnel throughout campus
