Panel Discussion

  • The 11th anniversary A Celebration of Innovation startup showcase will feature a panel of guests telling the story of one invention’s journey from lab to market, where it’s making our world a better place. This year’s panel includes key players representing the life cycle of implants originally marketed by UF startup MAKO Surgical in combination with a robotic system that provide custom implant fit, alignment, and positioning for each patient. The Mako robot, now owned by Stryker, makes implant surgery, such as partial knee replacement surgery, more effective with shorter recovery times. Inventor Dr. Scott Banks, MAKO Surgical co-founder and CEO Maurice Ferre, key investor Tony Natale, surgeon Dr. Tristan A. Altbuch, and licensing officer John Byatt will walk us through the life cycle of this important innovation.
