About
the Cover
The cover photo, Tamiami
Trail #1, and several others accompanying the article on Everglades
restoration are the work of Clyde Butcher, often described as the Amsel
Adams of the Everglades.
Butcher's award-winning black-and-white photographs are created using large-format
view cameras that allow him to capture elaborate detail and textures. The
finished prints range in size from 11-by-14 inches to 5-by-7 feet.
This photo was taken with a 5- by 7-inch view camera along Tamiami Trail
in the Big Cypress National Preserve new Ochopee in fall 1996.
Butcher's work has been featured in three books: Clyde Butcher - 1995
Limited Edition Collection' Clyde Butcher: Portfolio I, Florida Landscapes;
and his biography, Seeing the Light - Wilderness and Salvation: A Photographer's
Tale.
