UF Research offers a variety of training and professional development opportunities that provide research administrators throughout the university with “a lifeline” to the research community.
RSH279 – UFIRST Introduction
This course serves as an introduction to navigating and searching the UF Integrated Research Support Tool (UFIRST) and is a pre-requisite for all other UFIRST courses.
RSH280 – UFIRST Proposals
In this training, you will learn how to use the University’s proposal routing system, which includes functions for entering proposal information, creating budgets, attaching supporting documentation and routing agreements and proposals to the Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP).
RSH281 – Grants.gov Submissions via UFIRST SF424
This course covers how to develop and coordinate applications to Federal Grant Programs for submission via UFIRST to Grants.gov. It outlines how to create the SF424 Application Package from the UFIRST Proposal, import subawards, update the SF424 Application Package after changes have been made to the UFIRST Proposal, and notify DSP that the UFIRST Proposal and SF424 Application Package are ready for final review, approval, and submission to Grants.gov.
RSH282 – UFIRST Awards
This course is designed for all those that setup awards in UFIRST. UFIRST is used for management of all sponsored projects in Funds 201, 209, and 214. The UFIRST Awards module collects institutional award data, releases and hosts Notices of Awards (NOAs), and tracks award management requests.
RSH100 – Sponsored Projects Overview
Sponsored Projects Overview is an introductory course designed to provide a “big picture” view of the University of Florida’s research enterprise. This session discusses UF’s mission with a special focus on the Research component. It also covers UF’s organizational structure, the role of the research administrator, and the importance of maintaining our “culture of compliance.”
RSH200 – FAR/Effort Reporting
This session provides a comprehensive overview of effort reporting and its related business processes, including the Faculty Assignment Report, sponsored research commitments and effort certification.
RSH201 – Finding Funding & Limited Opportunities
This session will discuss services provided by the Division of Research Program Development, reveal resources for finding funding opportunities and discuss limited submission programs and the use of OppMan.
RSH202 – Solicitation Review & Proposal Development
This session covers how to properly read a Solicitation and confirm proposals are developed in compliance with Solicitation. We will also review UF’s policies for research proposals and the overall proposal submission and approval process.
RSH203 – Budget Development
This session will cover the steps to developing an accurate budget, including all budget guidelines and policies. Key terms will be defined, such as Direct & F&A Costs, Sub recipient, vendor, consultant, cost sharing and matching. We will also cover the impact budgeting has on effort reporting.
RSH204 – Non-Fiscal Compliance
This session will introduce the broad field of research compliance. We’ll discuss the major areas of compliance such as research involving human and vertebrate animal subjects, recombinant DNA, biohazards, and radioactive materials. We’ll also look at the role of the sponsored programs administrator in facilitating compliance and supporting the conduct of research.
RSH207 – Effort Commitments, Management, and Reporting
RSH207 covers key concepts related to effort commitments, management and reporting. This course replaces mandatory training courses RSH220 & RSH230 for staff who are involved in the administrative components of sponsored programs. Staff who have previously completed RSH220 & RSH230 are required to complete RSH207 to maintain access to sponsored programs information, systems and reporting tools.
RSH208 – Post Award Management & Monitoring Best Practices
This session will cover the best practices of handling post awards, including the reconciliation process, managing PI meetings, reporting and using myInvestiGator.
RSH215 – Research Reporting
This course goes over the use of Enterprise Analytics to run proposal, award, and expenditure reports, covers using Dashboards and other reporting tools.
RSH217 – All Things Pre-Award
This interactive session covers Sponsored Programs Pre-Award processes from a departmental perspective. This session provides a “hands-on” opportunity to work through solicitation review, proposal development, and budget development.
RSH218 – All Things Post-Award
In this interactive session, representatives from Contracts & Grants will lead activities emphasizing how to maximize reviewing your award and monitoring expenditures with an eye towards a smooth project closeout. Additionally, a representative from the Division of Sponsored Programs will outline key regulations and facilitate discussions on effort best practices. Participants will gain tips and tricks on how to leverage these post-award management concepts within your unit.
RSH260 – Cost Principles
This interactive session explains the distinction between direct and indirect costs, the principles of allowable costs, and the need for consistent treatment of costs.
RSH320 – Research Participant Payments for Fiscal Administrators
The Research Participant Payments (RPP) module is used to register studies, record participant payments, and store human subject data in a confidential and secure central database. This training will introduce the HSP system and explain everything you need to know to get started.
PST130 – Reconciliation for Tier 1
In this class, we introduce reports, tools, directives and recommendations for management of financial activities at the departmental level.
RAFT Certificate
The RAFT Certificate is available to all employees of UF/UF Health The certificate is awarded to employees of UF/UF Health who complete the courses below either through a cohort or individually. The certificate may be completed at any time.

RAFT Foundations Cohort
The RAFT Foundations Cohort is designed for employees with 12 months or fewer of sponsored programs management experience. The cohort is a multi-session series that introduces all aspects of sponsored programs management at UF. In addition, the RAFT Foundations Cohort seeks to foster peer relationships within the research support community. Each cohort is limited to a minimum number of participants to ensure networking and relationship building. Participants who successfully complete the series receive a certificate of completion.
