Sponsors frequently restrict the number of applications an institution can submit in response to a given funding opportunity. In limited opportunities, scholars are not applying as individuals, but as a representative of an institution, whether a department, a college, or the University as a whole – and there are a limited number of available slots for members of the UF community. This can be as many as several dozen, or a few as one, for the entirety of the university.
UF Research has established guidelines for selecting the proposal (or proposals) that will be submitted in response to a limited submission program, and internal coordination procedures are posted as early as possible on our Funding Opportunities page.
Announcement (9/2/2026): We are currently piloting some changes for the Limited Submissions process.
Two-Stage Submission Process: Competitions will now begin with a brief Stage 1 Letter of Intent (LOI).This LOI will require demographic information, the title of the application, and the topic area. LOIs are due on the Mondays following the announcement of the opportunity in the Weekly Digest. If the number of LOIs exceeds UF’s submission limit, applicants will automatically advance to Stage 2, where they will then submit an internal concept. Opportunities that have no submitted LOIs or do not exceed UF’s limit will then move to Last Chance, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
New Standing Review Committees: Instead of ad hoc reviewers recruited on a competition-by-competition basis, a multidisciplinary group of faculty appointed by each college’s Associate Deans of Research will serve on a Standing Review Committee. This means faster committee formation, more consistent feedback, and reduced administrative delay.
What this means for the UF Community: Please check all deadlines carefully in InfoReady and in the weekly funding digest, since there is now a faster turnaround time to indicate your interest in an opportunity

Limited submission funding opportunities are those in which the number of applicants allowed to submit from the university is restricted.
Faculty can apply for limited submission funding opportunities through UF’s InfoReady site at https://ufresearch.infoready4.com
Limited submission opportunities are posted on InfoReady throughout the week. To view the most up-to-date list of available limited opportunities, visit the link above.
Any principal investigator who meets the eligibility requirements for external funding outlined by DSP can apply. Eligibility criteria can be found here.
Limited submission opportunities are also included in the Weekly Digest, sent every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Opportunities are first announced in InfoReady and, if applicable, reposted in the Last Chance section.
Last Chance refers to previously announced limited opportunities that did not receive any applicants or still had open slots by the original submission deadline. These opportunities are reposted for additional consideration.
Awards will be granted within 48 hours if the number of LOIs matches the available slots. If there are more LOIs than slots, a competition will be held and applicants will be asked to submit concept papers. If fewer applications are received than available slots, the opportunities will be reposted in the Last Chance section, and awards will be given out on a “first come, first served” basis during this phase.

To apply, log in to InfoReady using UF credentials. Select the opportunity of interest from the home screen, complete the application, and submit.
The Step-2 application generally requires the following information: Applicant Name, Email, Phone Number, College, Department, and Appointment Title. A paragraph describing the applicant’s specific expertise is also required. Additionally, applicants must list any Co-PIs and provide the proposal title, a 2-page project description, a 1-page budget, a 1-page budget justification, and a biosketch/academic CV. However, investigators should be sure to read the requirements for any changes.
Yes, an investigator can choose to assign a proxy to apply on their behalf. The proxy must have the necessary access to the InfoReady system and complete the application submission process for the investigator.
After submission, the internal deadline must be met.
- If the number of applications equals the number of available slots, awards will be granted within 48 hours.
- If the number of applications exceeds the number of slots, a competition will take place.
- If the number of applications is fewer than the available slots, the opportunity will move to the Last Chance section and be reposted in the Weekly Digest. Applicants who applied before the internal deadline will be awarded within 48 hours, while those applying during the Last Chance phase will be awarded on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
