Malachowsky Hall for Data Science and Information Technology represents a significant milestone in the evolution of the University of Florida as a world-class research institution.
Growing out of UF’s goal of becoming a global leader in higher education, this building provides a next-generation collaborative environment where faculty and students from many disciplines can share ideas and intellect as they move artificial intelligence, data science, and information technology forward in all disciplines.
A guiding force behind this initiative and this building is Chris Malachowsky, a 1980 UF alumnus in electrical engineering who co-founded NVIDIA, the company now viewed as being best positioned to lead the AI revolution. Generous gifts from Malachowsky and NVIDIA of processors, funding and training have helped to power both our physical and intellectual advances in AI.
The building is the centralized human hub for major data-centric academic and research programs from the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, the College of Medicine, and the College of Pharmacy. Hundreds of faculty and thousands of students from these and other colleges will work together to leverage data analytics and AI to improve health; engineer the next generation of robotics, unmanned vehicles and communication systems; and ensure AI serves all people ethically and equitably.
Note: the building manager typically works during normal UF business hours Monday-Friday 8 AM to 5 PM except for UF Holidays, closures, or when on leave.
