rDNA, BSL-3 Pathogens and Select Agents in Research

Before working with recombinant DNA, BSL-3 pathogens and USDA/HHS Select Agents at the University of Florida (UF), the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) requires registration, review and approval. Recombinant DNA includes work involving synthetic nucleic acid molecules (DNA and RNA).

The IBC also reviews and approves all research involving BSL-3 pathogens and USDA/HHS Select Agents. Further, the IBC and the Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) Committee reviews and approves all research involving any of the agents or toxins on the DURC list.

The IBC works with the Biological Safety Office within the Environmental Health & Safety Division to establish, monitor, and enforce policies.

For more information or to register your research project, visit the IBC website.
