Matching Funds

Institutional Support for New Training Grants

Training grants are important mechanisms to support graduate students. They are peer-reviewed and thus provide important external validation of the quality of the proposed program and faculty mentors. They are also valuable recruiting tools as they are a source of multi-year awards, and students who are appointed on a training grant can use this prestigious award as an entry on their CVs. Federal agencies view an institutional commitment to these grants as an important signal that the university values the activity.

In order to help our efforts to secure more training grants for graduate education, the institution has initiated a tuition differential policy. Please contact Dr. Sobha Jaishankar for details or if a letter is required.

Special Matching Requests

Funds are available for the following:

  1. Matching contributions required on large instrumentation and facilities grants, and
  2. other matching required by the sponsor in their policy.

Requests must be made through the department chairs and the college deans. The college and/or department forwarding such requests are expected to cost share with the Office of Research in the funding.

Support for Meetings, Workshops and Conferences

Matching support generally up to a maximum of $3,000 is available to assist with the organizational expenses of national meetings sponsored by the University of Florida. In order to qualify for support, the meeting must be widely publicized and open to faculty, students and other UF personnel who would like to attend one or more sessions.

To access the guidelines and forms, view the Support of Meetings, Workshops and Conferences (pdf). Requests may be submitted at any time.

University of Florida Industry Partnerships (UFLIPS)

The UFLIPS Matching Grant Program will promote early- to late-stage technology development and commercialization through collaborative research opportunities between University of Florida researchers and high technology energy companies in Florida.

The path from the lab to the market can be risky and financially burdensome for many companies. The UFLIPS program has been created to aid Florida companies in their commercialization efforts of energy technologies.

The program allows these companies to engage UF Researchers and their teams in translational research opportunities, train and engage new talent while leveraging Research and Development dollars.
